I want to install a/c in my 1968 mustang fastback only problem is that i have a serpentine belt setup from march performance one of their old kits 2003 its a 302 block out of 84 mustang and i believe the serpentine setup is basically what the 87-90's 302 5.0l blocks used. Is it possible to install a/c on my mustang i was told by vintage air and classic auto air that i could use the compressor and brackets from a 87-90 mustang and connect the fittings to their system heres a pic of my engine bay for reference thanks for the help look forward to pricing info and advice

Do you have a reverse rotation water pump or a regular (clockwise rotation now)?

I need to know this because......

If you use a stock 5.0 serp bracket to hold the 5.0 A/C compressor then you need to also have a reverse rotation water pump. You need to remember where the A/C sits and how the belt runs... Wink

So, yes its possible to do but you need to change out the water pump, get the stock 5.0 bracket, make the custom  a/c lines.

or

Swap back to a v-belt and run the alternator, water pump and crank on one and another belt for the A/C to crank pulley the idler pulley that comes in the kit

you have a standard rotation pump based on the pictures. The water pump would be the only one that we would need to change to stay serp belt drive.

Pm you later with pricing...

ok since its standard rotation couldn't i just use the caa or vaa kit and just have the position the new serpentine belt correctly i always thought it was reverse rotation so thats why they may have thought it wouldn't work do you think a i could just use their compressor and mounts?

Basically you need to decide if you want serp belt or not then go from there.

re-read the post, it answered your question. Wink

the a/c kit for a 68 coupe is usually 1179.00 but if we need to swap out the compressor and or a/c lines it may be more or less or the same price. The installation for this kit that replaces the heater core is roughly 10-12 hours if there are any problems (10=750 to 12=900) plus the a/c charge. The only other area that could cause a problem is finding the stock a/c compressor bracket.
